Equals Barbados Launches New Website on IDAHOBIT 2026: A Commitment to Transparency for the LGBTQ+ Community
On May 17, 2026, International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexphobia, and Transphobia, Equals Barbados is marking IDAHOBIT with a new website and a renewed commitment to accountability for the LGBTQ+ community in Barbados and across the Caribbean.
This year’s IDAHOBIT theme: “At the Heart of Democracy,” reminds us that democratic societies are only as strong as their commitment to justice, equal rights, and inclusion for everyone. In Barbados, and across the Caribbean, that commitment still requires daily, deliberate work, so today, we are adding a new tool to help us do it better.
Why a New Website, and Why Now
In the spirit of strengthening our community, Equals is committing to increased transparency about who we are as an organisation. We also want to be more upfront about how we serve you.
Democracy, at its heart, depends on accountability. And accountability begins with communication.
What You Can Expect
The site will house the documents that explain how and why Equals works the way it does giving you direct access to the information that shapes our decisions.
Deeper stories about our work. Social media can only say so much. The site will give our projects and programmes the space they deserve, so you can understand the full picture of what we are doing and why it matters.
A reliable news source. Alongside our social media channels, the site will serve as a consistent place to find updates directly from Equals.
More ways to reach us. Communication is a two-way street. More feedback mechanisms are coming, including anonymous suggestion and feedback tools, because we want to hear from you.
At the Heart of What We Do
IDAHOBIT exists because the struggle for LGBTQ+ rights is also a struggle for the soul of democracy itself. Free societies cannot be free for only some. Inclusion is not a side issue, it is a central one. Every report we publish, every service we deliver, is part of that larger cause.
With solidarity,
The Equals Team
